Reminders from the VCAA VCE Administrative Handbook
As we progress through the term, we want to share some important reminders from the VCAA VCE Administrative Handbook regarding assessment, attendance and work authentication to help set every student up for success.
How “Satisfactory” (S) Results Are Determined
Under VCAA guidelines, achieving a Satisfactory (“S”) result in a unit is based on a teacher’s overall, holistic judgement of a student’s performance across classroom activities, set coursework and assessment tasks (SACs/SATs).
- Attendance is essential: Simply turning up to sit a SAC or submit a SAT does not automatically guarantee an “S”. Consistent class attendance is required so teachers can observe learning and verify that unit outcomes have been met.
- Ongoing classwork matters: Daily learning activities are just as crucial as major assessments.
Authentication: Verifying Work is Your Own
To award an “S”, teachers must be confident that all work submitted is genuinely the student’s own.
- In-class tracking: Teachers will regularly observe work in progress, learning task completion, check planning materials and review drafts during scheduled class time.
- Keeping progress logs: Students should be prepared to present notes, outlines and previous drafts upon request.
Addressing Concerns Early
If a student’s attendance or work authentication falls below requirements, the subject teacher will issue a formal VCE at Risk of an N notification letter. This ensures parents and students are informed early and can collaborate with the teacher to get back on track before results are finalised.
Subject Confirmation
Initial subject confirmations for next year will be released in the coming weeks.
Where a student could not be allocated to one or more of their primary preferences, their selected reserve preferences have been used. While a small number of subjects did not reach the minimum enrolment numbers required to run, we are proud to continue offering an exceptionally broad range of learning pathways at a time when many schools are limiting student choices.
- Check your confirmation: Review your allocated subjects carefully once received.
- Reserve subjects: If a reserve choice appears, it means a primary preference was unavailable due to timetable constraints or subject enrolment numbers.
